What to Look for During a Nursery Visit

A practical visual checklist for parents visiting a nursery, including children, staff, spaces, routines and atmosphere.

Try to observe the setting rather than only listening to the sales pitch. Look at how adults speak to children, whether children appear engaged and whether the environment feels calm and welcoming.

Look at the details

  • Are activities accessible to children?
  • Is outdoor space used?
  • Do staff know children's routines?
  • Are there quiet spaces?
  • Are safety arrangements clear?

Trust your questions and observations. You are choosing a place where your child may spend a large part of their week.
