Nursery Safeguarding: What Parents Should Expect

Key safeguarding questions parents can ask when choosing an early years setting.

โ† All Early Years guides

Safeguarding is a fundamental part of early years provision. Parents should feel able to ask how a setting keeps children safe and how concerns are handled.

Questions to ask

  • Who are the designated safeguarding leads?
  • How are visitors managed?
  • How are staff recruited and checked?
  • How are accidents and incidents recorded?
  • How can parents raise a concern?

You do not need to be an expert in safeguarding. A good setting should be willing to explain its arrangements clearly.
